On 15 May, a symposium on strategic cooperation and exchange between Nanjing University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Shanghai Branch was held at NJU's Xianlin Campus. During the event, a signing ceremony was held to formalise cooperation agreements between NJU and the CAS Shanghai Branch, as well as its research institutes. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the CAS; Wang Hua, Deputy Secretary-General of the CAS and Party Group Secretary and Director of the CAS Shanghai Branch, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
On behalf of NJU, Tan Tieniu welcomed the representatives from the CAS Shanghai Branch and its affiliated institutes, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the care and support they have shown towards the university. He outlined the history and development of NJU and noted that the important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the symposium on strengthening basic research has charted the course forward and provided fundamental guidance for our future work. NJU and the CAS are both integral components of the nation's strategic scientific and technological capabilities; they share a long-standing history and possess a solid foundation for cooperation, as well as vast scope for collaboration. He expressed the hope that both parties would take this signing ceremony as a new starting point to work together more closely, jointly scaling the heights of scientific and technological achievement, nurturing scientific and technological talent, building scientific and technological platforms, and expanding cooperation networks, thereby jointly contributing to the economic and social development of the Yangtze River Delta and better serving and supporting the construction of a strong nation in science and technology.
Wang Hua expressed his gratitude to NJU for its long-standing support of the CAS Shanghai Branch, and fully endorsed the collaborative achievements between the institutes within the branch system and NJU. He pointed out that in order to accelerate the development of a hub for original innovation, achieve breakthroughs in key core technologies, strive to secure a leading position in science and technology, and continue to make new breakthroughs, it is essential to constantly emancipate our minds, broaden our horizons, and deepen cooperation, thereby uniting the nation's strategic scientific and technological forces to form a powerful synergy. He looks forward to the CAS Shanghai Branch and NJU jointly exploring new approaches to advancing the coordinated development of education, science and technology, and talent, working together to promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, strengthening collaboration between the institution and the university, and better serving the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. He expressed the hope that both parties would expand practical cooperation and achieve more fruitful results.
