On May 8, Tan Tieniu, Chair of Nanjing University CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with Zheng Haitao, Deputy Secretary of the Yangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, and his delegation at the Xianlin Campus. Both sides engaged in discussions to further deepen cooperation between the university and the local government.

Tan Tieniu welcomed Zheng Hai tao and his delegation on behalf of NJU. He pointed out that in a significant reply to the overseas Chinese scholars returning to NJU, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of taking "serving the country and the people" as a conscious pursuit. To this end, the university has issued the "Nanjing University Comprehensive Support Plan for the New Practice of Chinese Modernization in Jiangsu," referred to as the "7291" action plan. This plan aims to implement seven major initiatives and focus on 29 key tasks to significantly enhance the university's capacity to support Jiangsu's high-quality development, thereby living up to General Secretary Xi Jinping's earnest expectations. He expressed that Yangzhou, as a historical and cultural city, has a solid foundation for cooperation with NJU and vast potential for collaboration. It is the unshirkable mission of NJU to effectively support the development of new productive forces in Yangzhou. He looks forward to both sides closely aligning with local needs and the strengths of NJU, particularly in areas such as research platform construction, industrial cooperation, and talent development, to further deepen exchanges and cooperation, advancing hand in hand to inject strong momentum into the development of new productive forces.
Zheng Haitao, on behalf of the Yangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal People's Government, expressed gratitude for NJU's long-standing care and support. He introduced the overall layout of Yangzhou's advantages in manufacturing and service sectors over the next five years, particularly in petrochemicals and new materials, automobiles, shipbuilding, and electronic information. He emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities in artificial intelligence development and implementing a dual-drive strategy of "computing power + scenarios," hoping to gain strong support from NJU's top talents and rich resources, thereby making it a new growth pole for Jiangsu’s high-quality development. He noted that the upcoming launch of NJU's new materials concept verification center and pilot base in Yizheng, Yangzhou, will open a new chapter for deepening cooperation between the two parties. He hopes that NJU will promote more platforms, talents, and achievements to take root in Yangzhou, co-constructing more industrial innovation hubs to assist the "strong, prosperous, beautiful, and high" modernization of Jiangsu in reaching new heights.
