On March 18, Nanjing University held a briefing session for conveying the spirit of the Two Sessions and a new semester work planning meeting on Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Chair of NJU CPC Council Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), along with Lyu Jian, Member of the Standing Committee the National People's Congress (NPC) and Academician of the CAS, delivered reports on the spirit of the Two Sessions. President Tan Zhemin, Academician of the CAS, outlined the administrative work for the new semester.

Tan Tieniu provided a comprehensive introduction to the basic situation of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC's fourth session and offered an in-depth interpretation of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches during the Two Sessions. He pointed out that the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC's fourth session was guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implemented the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the subsequent plenary sessions, earnestly carried out the deployments of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee, focused on the formulation and implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan, engaged in in-depth consultations and political discussions, and widely gathered consensus, achieving significant results. During the meeting, five CPPCC members from NJU actively fulfilled their duties, earnestly participating in political discussions, voicing the perspectives of NJU, telling its stories, showcasing its wisdom, and demonstrating its responsibilities, which garnered widespread attention.

Tan Tieniu emphasized that learning and implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches during the Two Sessions and the spirit of the Two Sessions is a major political task for the university. He stressed that the Two Sessions are significant events in the country's political life. In 2025, NJU made steady progress and achieved fruitful results in its journey to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. The year 2026 marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan and is a critical year in the three-year action plan for building a strong educational nation. It is also a key year for Nanjing University to formulate and implement its 15th Five-Year Development Plan and the "Forging Ahead Initiative 2.0," accelerating efforts to build a world-class Nanjing University with Chinese characteristics and making new and greater contributions to the comprehensive advancement of national strength and the great rejuvenation of the nation through Chinese-style modernization.
Lyu Jian delivered a report titled "Spirit of the Two Sessions and University Development." He introduced the overall situation of the 14th NPC's fourth session, conveyed General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches during the Two Sessions and his important remarks while participating in the Jiangsu delegation's deliberations, systematically reviewed the main contents and deliberation status of the "Government Work Report," the standing committee work report, the reports from the "two high" (Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate), and other relevant reports, and provided a focused interpretation of the work deployments related to education, technology, and talent in the "Government Work Report" and the 15th Five-Year Plan.

Tan Zhemin delivered a report on the work deployment for the new semester. He emphasized that 2026 is a highly challenging year in the university's development process, requiring greater diligence and practical efforts. The university must adhere to the principles of "overall direction" "precision improvement" and "practical effectiveness", striving to achieve "four major breakthroughs": first, a breakthrough in structure, to reconstruct development coordinates and establish a new leading position; second, a breakthrough in capability, to strengthen the foundation of innovation and build irreplaceable core capabilities; third, a breakthrough in resources, to optimize ecological allocation and lay the foundation for sustainable development; fourth, a breakthrough in contribution, to demonstrate exceptional value and fulfill the ultimate mission of a first-class university.

Tan Zhemin comprehensively summarized the highlights of NJU's work in 2025, including continuous deepening of strategic planning, significant achievements in discipline construction, notable results in talent cultivation, simultaneous improvement in the quality and quantity of team building, frequent reports of technological innovation, fruitful outcomes in humanities and social sciences, substantial breakthroughs in open education, ongoing refinement of the multi-campus educational structure, and continuous enhancement of management services. He also provided specific plans for key work in 2026.
An award ceremony was held to present the Nanjing University Outstanding Contribution Award. The research teams of Academician Fang Cheng and Professor Li Chuan, Professor Wan Xiangang, Professor Jiang Qing, Professor Du Lingjie, and Professor Wang Tao were awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award for Scientific Research" for 2025. The School of Artificial Intelligence, the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences were awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award for Team Building" for 2025, while the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Construction Department received the "Outstanding Contribution Award for Management Work" for 2025. Tan Tieniu presented awards to the winning teams for scientific research and team building, while Tan Zhemin presented awards to the winning units for management work.



Zheng Hairong, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee and Executive Vice President of NJU, chaired the meeting and read the "Decision on Awarding the 2025 Nanjing University Outstanding Contribution Award."
