On March 3rd, during the Lantern Festival, Zhang Junfeng, President of Ocean University of China led a delegation to visit Nanjing University, where the two universities officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement, embarking on a new chapter of collaboration. Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the signing ceremony and delivered a speech.
Tan Zhemin warmly welcomed Zhang Junfeng and his delegation on behalf of NJU. He noted that both universities are members of the high-level university group. President Xi Jinping sent important replies to both universities on the occasion of Ocean University's centenary and NJU's 120th anniversary, acknowledging their educational achievements and expressing high expectations. The two universities share similar school ethos, have deep friendship, close cooperation, and have maintained excellent communication for a long time, laying a solid foundation for this strategic cooperation. He hopes to use this signing as an opportunity to leverage NJU's comprehensive academic advantages and Ocean University's marine specialty advantages to engage in closer cooperation in student training, talent exchange, sharing of quality teaching and research resources, and tackling key research areas, jointly cultivating top innovative talents, providing talent support for national and regional development, and jointly serving major national strategies and regional high-quality development. He wishes for the lasting friendship between the two universities and the creation of new chapters.
In his speech, Zhang Junfeng expressed his feelings upon returning to his alma mater where he studied and worked for many years, and his pride in the achievements and progress of his alma mater. He introduced Ocean University's accomplishments in marine discipline construction, marine talent cultivation, and serving the maritime power strategy. He stated that Ocean University and NJU share sincere and solid commonalities in campus culture, have deep cooperation roots, and broad cooperation space, looking forward to expanding in-depth cooperation in discipline construction, basic research, talent team building, and student training to jointly serve national strategic needs and contribute more to the great cause of national strength and national rejuvenation.
Witnessed by Tan Zhemin and Zhang Junfeng, Liu Yong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Ocean University of China, and Chen Yunsong, Vice-Chair of NJU CPC Council, signed the strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties.
During the ceremony, participants watched promotional videos of Nanjing University and Ocean University of China, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the development history, academic characteristics, and educational achievements of both universities, further consolidating the consensus on cooperation.
The signing ceremony was hosted by Li Bin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee, Assistant President, and Director of the General Office of Nanjing University. Li Yan, Assistant President and Director of the Science and Technology Department of Ocean University of China, and relevant department heads from both universities attended the event.
