On May 19, Roh Jae-heon, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to China, led a delegation to visit Nanjing University. Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with the delegation at the Gulou Campus.
On behalf of NJU, Tan Zhemin extended a warm welcome to Roh Jae-heon and his delegation and introduced the university's long history and achievements in education. He noted that NJU shares deep historical academic ties with South Korea and has established close partnerships with several top South Korean universities, yielding fruitful results. He emphasized that the accelerating trends of technological revolution and industrial transformation offer new missions and opportunities for deepening collaboration between China and South Korea. He expressed his hope to further enhance comprehensive cooperation with South Korean universities and research institutions in academic innovation, talent cultivation, and integration of industry, academia, and research. Leveraging platforms like the "Nanjing Forum," he proposed jointly exploring cutting-edge technologies, strengthening youth exchanges, and promoting mutual learning between civilizations, thereby contributing the wisdom and strength of universities to the stable and long-term development of the China-South Korea strategic partnership.
Roh Jae-heon praised NJU's over 120-year history, outstanding reputation, and remarkable achievements in talent cultivation. He expressed hope that NJU would continue to play its role as a bridge between South Korea and China, further consolidating the foundation of their strong cooperation, expanding areas of collaboration, elevating the level of partnership, and enhancing the friendship between the two nations. He sincerely hoped that more South Korean youth would come to study at NJU, enabling the younger generation to contribute more to the future development of both countries.
This visit coincided with the 2026 China (Jiangsu)-South Korea Friendship Week. Following the meeting, Ambassador Roh Jae-heon delivered a keynote speech titled "China-South Korea Relations in the New Era" and engaged in a cordial exchange with faculty and students of the university.
