Speaker:

Roberto Patuelli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Bologna, Italy, and a Research Fellow at the Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis (RCEA). He received his Bachelor’s degree in Statistics and Economics from the University of Bologna in 2002, a Master’s degree in Operations Research and Logistics from the School of Public Policy at George Mason University, USA, in 2005, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Department of Spatial Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 2007. From 2008 to 2011, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Economic Research (IRE) at the University of Lugano, Switzerland.

His current research focuses on complex networks, commuting networks, sustainable transportation, regional employment forecasting, regional unemployment disparities, regional innovation processes, and international trade. Methodologically, his work primarily emphasizes spatial statistics and econometrics, along with their applications in nonlinear and mixture models. He has published over 60 academic papers in international journals, authored one monograph, and co-edited four volumes. He recently completed his role as principal investigator for the European ERA-NET co-funded project “Smart Mobility Hubs as Game Changers in Transport” (SmartHubs). He has led four research projects funded by European ERA-NET, the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, and the University of Bologna, and has participated in nearly 20 international projects funded by the European Union, Germany, and Poland.

He has served extensively as an editor, managing editor, and senior content editor for REGION, the journal of the European Regional Science Association, and has been a member of scientific committees, special session organizer, and organizing committee member for international academic conferences. He is currently an Associate Editor of Economics and Business Letters and Review of Economic Analysis, and serves on the editorial boards of Asia-Pacific Journal of Regional Science, Tourism Economics, Hungarian Statistical Review, and The Annals of Regional Science. He is also the Economics Section Editor for Miscellanea Geographica and an Area Editor for Networks and Spatial Economics.
