On May 19, a signing ceremony for targeted cooperation between Nanjing University and Zhengzhou University was held at the Xianlin Campus of NJU. Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); and Li Peng, President of Zhengzhou University and Academician of the CAS, attended the signing ceremony and delivered speeches.

Tan Zhemin welcomed Li Peng and her delegation on behalf of NJU. He pointed out that the work of jointly establishing universities by ministries and provinces is a major initiative by the country aimed at optimizing the layout of higher education and promoting coordinated regional development. It is an important approach for high-level universities to serve national strategies and contribute to high-quality development. For a long time, Nanjing University and Zhengzhou University have been partners in targeted cooperation, mutually supporting each other and advancing together. They have conducted a series of practical collaborations in key disciplines such as chemistry, materials science and engineering, and archaeology, achieving outstanding results. Tan Zhemin expressed the hope that both sides would further deepen cooperation in areas such as joint discipline development, talent cultivation, research collaboration, and faculty exchange, thus laying a more solid foundation for the high-quality development of both universities.

Li Peng expressed heartfelt gratitude to NJU for its care and support for Zhengzhou University. She provided an in-depth introduction to the historical evolution, basic development situation, and future development plans of Zhengzhou University. Li Peng pointed out that she hopes Zhengzhou University and Nanjing University will take this signing as a new starting point to carry out deeper, broader, and higher-level cooperation in areas such as faculty exchange, staff training, talent cultivation, discipline construction, collaboration between the university and local government, and integration of industry, academia, and research. She emphasized the establishment of a regular communication mechanism to jointly promote the cooperative development of both sides to new heights.

Chen Yunsong, Deputy Chair of NJU CPC Council; and Shan Chongxin, Vice President of Zhengzhou University, signed the agreement.

The meeting was chaired by Li Bin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee, Assistant President, and Director of the General Office of NJU. Hu Shaowei, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Zhengzhou University Committee and vice president of Zhengzhou University, along with responsible personnel from relevant departments and colleges of both universities, attended the signing ceremony.
Before the meeting, Li Peng and her delegation visited the Nanjing University History Museum, the National Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, and the National Key Laboratory of Life Analytical Chemistry.
