On the afternoon of May 10, the Special promotion session on high-quality development of Nanjing University-Lianyungang City cooperation was held at the Xianlin Campus of NJU. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); and Xing Zhengjun, Secretary of the Lianyungang Municipal Party Committee, attended the conference and delivered speeches. Zhou Jin, Deputy Secretary of the Lianyungang Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, presided over the meeting.
Tan Tieniu pointed out that Lianyungang is the cradle of Journey to the West culture and a brilliant pearl of coastal openness in the new era, providing a broad stage for various talents to showcase their abilities and achieve their dreams. Currently, NJU is implementing the "Forging Ahead Initiative", continuously making efforts in various fields such as discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research innovation, cultural inheritance, and social service. The university's international reputation is steadily rising, and its development is flourishing, with its educational strength firmly positioned among the top tier of domestic universities. NJU has always maintained close communication and collaboration with Lianyungang City, creating a model of mutual empowerment in university-government cooperation. At the same time, NJU has become a "reservoir" for attracting high-quality talent from Lianyungang and delivering top innovative talents to Lianyungang, contributing solid strength to the city's industrial development and technological innovation. Tan Tieniu expressed the hope that in future cooperation, both sides can fully leverage their advantages, further promote platform co-construction, collaborative achievements, shared talent cultivation, and cultural prosperity, jointly creating a new model of school-city cooperation, better advancing the integration of "Unique Nanjing University" construction with Lianyungang City's high-quality development, injecting strong momentum into the modernization of the new port city characterized by "strong, rich, beautiful, and high," and making greater contributions to accelerating the new practice of Chinese modernization in Jiangsu.
Xing Zhengjun, on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal People's Government, expressed gratitude to NJU for its long-term concern and support for Lianyungang's development. He stated that NJU is one of the birthplaces of modern higher education in China and has always been among the top tier of Chinese universities since its establishment, nurturing a large number of renowned figures and generations of talented individuals, supporting the life dreams of millions of students. In recent years, NJU has engaged in extensive and in-depth cooperation with Lianyungang in areas such as basic research, industrial upgrading, and planning, yielding fruitful results in university-government collaboration and jointly nurturing new dreams. Currently, Lianyungang is deeply studying and implementing the important speeches and instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, accelerating its progress toward the dream of "catching up to the front." With the accelerated construction of a modern industrial system represented by green petrochemicals, biomedicine, and new materials, Lianyungang is confident in providing a broad stage for the transformation of NJU's scientific achievements and for NJU students to pursue and fulfill their dreams. Lianyungang and NJU will surely embark on a new journey together, creating a future and continuing to write more exciting stories of dreams coming true, contributing greater strength to the modernization of "strong, rich, beautiful, and high" in new Jiangsu.

Jiao Ruihua, Deputy Chair of NJU CPC Council and Shang Zhenjiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Lianyungang Municipal Party Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor, signed the strategic cooperation agreement between Nanjing University and Lianyungang City.
Lyu Jie, Deputy Mayor of Lianyungang City and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Xuwei New District, released the list of technical cooperation needs between Nanjing University and Lianyungang City.
The promotion conference utilized AI to showcase Lianyungang's historical culture and socioeconomic development, introduced Lianyungang's talent policies, and engaged in interactive Q&A with Nanjing University students. Lyu Aifeng, President of Jiangsu Haosen Pharmaceutical Group and Dean of the Research Institute, an alumnus of NJU, and Hu Yang, a faculty member from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at NJU who is originally from Lianyungang, shared their insights as outstanding representatives of the "City + University."
After the meeting, the leaders from Lianyungang City visited the Nanjing University History Museum.
On the same day, three sub-events were held, including the "Talent Arrives at Port City, Value is Priceless" 2026 Lianyungang University Recruitment Season, Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Matchmaking Conference, and University Achievement Roadshow, along with a Youth Experience Market, and a Liangyungang City Travel Guide was released.
Lianyungang city leaders Hu Zhu and Liu Chunjun, along with Li Bin, Member of the Standing Committee the CPC NJU Committee, Assistant President, and Director of the General Office, participated in the event.
