On May 10, the 2026 National Conference on Innovation through the Integration of Brain-Computer Interface Technology and Industry was held in Nanjing, hosted by the Brain-Computer Interface Research Institute of Nanjing University (Gulou Laboratory), the National Innovation Center for Advanced Medical Devices, and the Innovation Joint Body of the Key Laboratory of Brain-Computer Interfaces. Liu Xiaotao, Governor of Jiangsu Pronvice attended the opening ceremony. Attendees included Zhou Hongbo, Member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee; Chang Jin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and President of the University of Science and Technology of China; Zhang Rong, Academician of the CAS and Secretary of the Party Committee of Xiamen University; and Tan Tieniu, Academician of the CAS and Chair of NJU CPC Council. Shen Jianrong, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Pronve; Li Zhongjun, Mayor of Nanjing City and Tan Zhemin, Academician of the CAS and President of NJU, delivered speeches.
As a strategic frontier technology in the new round of global technological revolution and industrial transformation, brain-computer interfaces are an important avenue for promoting the deep integration of life health and the digital economy. Jiangsu Province has taken the lead in the country by introducing an action plan for the innovative development of the brain-computer interface industry. The Provincial Brain-Computer Interface Industry Alliance has been established, creating a development pattern of "research innovation, clinical traction, platform empowerment, and ecological collaboration." The conference aims to build a communication platform for deep integration of industry, academia, and research, lead academic frontiers, gather top resources, promote the landing of achievements, and achieve the transformation of brain-computer interface technology, industrial cooperation, and regional collaborative development.
On the day of the event, the "Brain-Computer Interface Industry Brain and Research Report (2026)" was released, along with the Brain Science Research journal and the high-quality dataset of brain-computer interfaces in Jiangsu Province. The National Brain-Computer Interface Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, Medical Alliance, and Capital Alliance were established. The Jiangsu (Nanjing) Brain Intelligence Technology Innovation Park was inaugurated, and the "Nanjing Guyue" brain-computer interface industry guidance fund, with a total scale of 1 billion yuan, was unveiled. A number of outstanding young scientists, excellent research, innovative products, and innovative companies were awarded, and key projects were signed on-site. Before the conference, attendees visited the exhibition of cutting-edge technological achievements in brain-computer interfaces.
Zheng Hairong, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee, Executive Vice President of NJU, and Academician of the CAS, presided over the opening ceremony. Nearly 20 academicians from universities and research institutions, Secretary-General of the Provincial People's Government Zhao Jianjun, officials from relevant departments of national ministries and commissions, responsible persons from provincial and municipal departments, as well as representatives from universities, research institutes, medical institutions, investment institutions, and enterprises across the country participated in the event.
