The Third Session of the Seventh Council of Nanjing University Alumni Association convenes

On March 29, the Third Session of the Seventh Council of Nanjing University Alumni Association was held on Xianlin Campus. Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University, President of Nanjing University Alumni Association, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the meeting.

On behalf of NJU and the NJU Alumni Association, Tan Zhemin extended sincere gratitude to alumni organizations and all alumni for their long-standing concern for the development of NJU and support of its construction. He pointed out that over the past year, the Alumni Association has made steady progress and achieved fruitful results in all its work. With sincere devotion, the vast number of alumni consistently have given back to their alma mater, injecting sustained impetus into its high-quality development in areas including talent cultivation, industry-university-research integration, campus construction, and enhancement of social reputation. The university has made important progress in various undertakings: discipline development has reached new heights, talent cultivation has achieved remarkable results, the faculty team has grown in both quantity and quality, scientific research and innovation has delivered frequent successes, multi-campus operation has advanced steadily, and open education has achieved in-depth breakthroughs.

Tan Zhemin pointed out that 2026 marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, as well as a critical year for us to navigate uphill challenges and scale new heights in the development of the "Unique Nanjing University". Nanjing University will advance reform and innovation in depth, focusing on breakthroughs in strategic layout, comprehensive capacity, resource acquisition and social contribution. In particular, it will accelerate the building of a community with a shared future between global alumni and the university's development, so as to provide strong support for improving the soft development environment and promoting the sustainable development of the university. He put forward three expectations: first, further consolidate the organizational foundation and improve the global network of alumni organizations; second, further innovate participation mechanisms and foster a two-way empowerment and symbiotic pattern; third, further enhance service quality and deepen the emotional bond between alumni and alma mater. Tan Zhemin stated that the construction and development of the alma mater requires the joint participation and concerted support of every NJU member. He sincerely hoped that all council members and alumni would continue to care for and support the alma mater, unite their aspirations and strengths, and jointly create a brilliant future belonging to every NJUer on the new journey of accelerating the "Unique Nanjing University" and advancing the great cause of national development and rejuvenation.

Suo Wenbin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Nanjing University Committee, Vice President of Nanjing University and Vice President of the Nanjing University Alumni Association, delivered the 2025 annual work report. The report systematically reviewed the work of the Alumni Association in 2025 from the following aspects: strengthening theoretical guidance and consolidating the institutional foundation; building a diversified system and stimulating organizational vitality; improving the liaison network and pooling alumni strength, etc. Suo Wenbin noted that the Alumni Association will continue to uphold the mission of "serving the alumni, serving the alma mater and serving the society", with a focus on three areas: first, build consensus to jointly foster a community for the development of the alma mater and alumni; second, integrate resources to empower university development through alumni strength; third, standardize management to consolidate the foundation for the development of alumni organizations. He hoped that all alumni would remain devoted to their alma mater, shoulder their responsibilities, and work together, so as to jointly write a new chapter of Nanjing University's development in the new era.

At the meeting, Zheng Chunxiao, President of the Nanjing University Alumni Association of Hainan Province, and Zhao Wei, Vice President of the Nanjing University Alumni Association of Sichuan Province, shared their experiences as representatives of newly established alumni organizations. According to their speech, alumni affection is the eternal core, standardized operation is the long-term guarantee, open collaboration is the driving force for development, and practical innovation is the source of vitality. They expressed the hope that under the leadership of the NJU Alumni Association, alumni organizations will strengthen exchanges and jointly build a more dynamic, warm and influential alumni platform, so as to make greater contributions to alumni development and the high-quality development of the alma mater.
