At present, NJU is adhering to General Secretary Xi Jinping's important directive to ground university development firmly in China, and is fully implementing the spirit of his significant reply to our university's young scholars returning from overseas study, whilst accelerating the development of NJU into a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. Tan Tieniu stated that NJU looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with GXU in the fields of the humanities and social sciences, as well as in promoting open cooperation with ASEAN, so that together they may serve the broader interests of national development.

He outlined the recent development of GXU and noted that NJU possesses a rich academic heritage and outstanding disciplinary strengths. He expressed his hope that NJU would provide strong support in the fields of humanities and social sciences, particularly in research on fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, studies on Chinese ethnic minorities and frontier studies, and faculty development, thereby helping GXU to raise its academic standards to new heights.
