On February 27, NJU organized an expert review meeting on the performance self-evaluation report for the Jiangsu high-level university "Double First-Class" construction support plan. The meeting was chaired by Lyu Jian, former President of NJU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The expert panel included Cui Tiejun, Academician of the CAS adn Professor at Southeast University; Zhang Junfeng, President of Ocean University of China; Jin Ke, Vice President of Jiangnan University; Ding Dazhi, Vice President of Nanjing University of Science and Technology; as well as academicians Guo Zijian and Shen Shuzhong; Zhou Xiaohong, University Distinguished Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences, Yang Zhong, and other experts from inside and outside the university. Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the CAS, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The meeting was hosted by Zheng Hairong, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC NJU Committee and Executive Vice President of NJU, and Academician of the CAS.
In his speech, Tan Zhemin extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the experts for their guidance. He emphasized that building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics is an important mission of the times. This review meeting serves as a "comprehensive inspection" of NJU's achievements over the past five years. He earnestly requested the experts to provide valuable suggestions to help NJU identify shortcomings and guide its future development.
Zheng Hairong summarized the overall situation of this round of construction on behalf of the university. The Office of Discipline Construction and Development Planning of NJU delivered a report focusing on the university's efforts in becoming world-class, serving national strategies, and contributing to Jiangsu's economic and social development, as well as the outcomes achieved.
Experts at the meeting conducted inquiries and exchanges on the completion of construction tasks, the refinement of discipline characteristics, striving for world-class status, and serving national strategies and regional development. The expert group unanimously agreed that NJU has completed all construction tasks and indicators with high quality, with good alignment and high achievement, showing significant results and distinctive features.
In his concluding remarks, Zheng Hairong stated that NJU will carefully review and incorporate the experts' opinions and suggestions, focusing on problems, reform, and innovation, and effectively transform the review results into a powerful driving force for building the "Unique Nanjing University." He emphasized that in the new round of "Double First-Class" construction, the university will adopt higher positions and more practical measures to accelerate the building of a strong nation in education and better serve the construction of a "strong, rich, beautiful, and high" new Jiangsu, making greater contributions.
Officials from the Office of Discipline Construction and Development Planning and relevant departments attended the meeting.
