As the Chinese New Year approaches, Tan Tieniu, Chair of Nanjing University CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), along with Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the CAS, visited and extended greetings to some of the university's former leaders, academicians, distinguished professors in humanities and social sciences, and Party member representatives, offering them warm regards and New Year wishes.
During his visit to Hu Jinbo, former Chair of NJU CPC Council, Tan Tieniu expressed heartfelt gratitude for Hu's significant contributions to the university and introduced the current positive development, the leadership team's tradition of unity and hard work, and the progress of key initiatives. Tan Tieniu sincerely invited Hu Jinbo to visit the university often, hoping he would continue to care for and guide NJU's future development.
Tan Tieniu had a heartfelt conversation with Wu Peiheng, Academician of the CAS and professor at the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, inquiring in detail about his health and daily life, and carefully listened to his opinions and suggestions on the university's development. Tan Tieniu highly praised Wu for his integrity and talent, his dedication to NJU, and his significant contributions to the field of superconducting electronics and the university's development over the past 66 years. He informed Wu about the newly elected academicians last year and hoped Wu would take care of his health and continue to contribute academic ideas and cultivate research talents for the university.
At the home of Zhu Shining, Academician of the CAS and professor at the School of Physiccs, Tan Tieniu expressed deep respect for Zhu's dedication to the frontlines of scientific research and sincerely thanked him for his commitment to national strategies and NJU's development, as well as his outstanding contributions in academic research and talent cultivation. Tan Tieniu inquired about Zhu's recent work progress and living conditions, sincerely hoping he would continue to play a leading role and achieve further success with more people at NJU in moral education and promoting technological self-reliance and strength, contributing wisdom to the university's high-quality development.
At the Business School, Tan Tieniu visited Zhao Shuming, University Distinguished Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences, Honorary Dean of Business School and Dean of Xingzhi Academy, thanking him for his strong support of the university's work. They shared their experiences of studying abroad and dedicating themselves to nurturing talents. Tan Tieniu emphasized the importance of writing research papers based on China's realities, further strengthening international education, and telling China's story to the world. He hoped Zhao would provide valuable suggestions for the development of humanities and social sciences and the improvement of governance capabilities at the university.
At the home of 101-year-old Party member Zou Jinshang from the School of Atmospheric Sciences, Tan Tieniu fully acknowledged Zou's outstanding contributions to China's "Two Bombs, One Satellite" project and his honors, including collective first-class merit and individual third-class merit. He inquired with care about Zou's health. Zou recalled his days ensuring meteorological support for nuclear tests, sharing memories of working alongside NJU alumni like Cheng Kaijia. "Remarkable, you are our hero!" Tan Tieniu urged Zou and his family to contact the university anytime if needed, sincerely wishing him longevity and well-being.
At the School of History, Tan Tieniu visited the Chinese Communist Party History Archives, warmly greeting Professor Cao Dachen. Tan Tieniu expressed admiration and praise for Cao's decades-long dedication to collecting Party history materials and his exemplary spirit as an outstanding Party member, and introduced the future development plans for the university's four campuses. Tan Tieniu also visited and extended New Year wishes to Party member representatives, including Wu Ping, a university staff assigned to poverty alleviation work in Shuyang.
Tan Zhemin and his team visited and extended greetings to Qu Qinyue, former President of NJU and Academician of the CAS; Lyu Jian, former President and Academician of the CAS; Chen Yong, Academician of the CAS and Professor at the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering; Sun Yisui, Academician of the CAS and Professor at the School of Astronomy & Space Science; Wang Dezi, Academician of the CAS and Professor at the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering; Fu Congbin, Academician of the CAS and Professor at the School of Atmospheric Sciences; and Liu Zhihong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor at the Medical School.
At each location, Tan Zhemin engaged in cordial exchanges with the former leaders and academicians, expressing sincere gratitude and extending New Year wishes. Tan Zhemin briefly introduced the progress and significant achievements in the university's educational endeavors over the past year and humbly listened to their insightful views on the university's future development. He inquired in detail about their health and daily lives, stating that the former leaders and academicians are valuable assets to the Party and the university. The achievements of the university's work are inseparable from the foundation laid by the former leaders and academicians and their ongoing care and support. He hoped they would continue to leverage their rich experience and broad knowledge to support NJU's educational endeavors, contributing wisdom and strength to NJU's construction and development.
