Mid-term meeting of the Ministry of Education's "101 Plan" in atmospheric science holds at NJU

On January 18, 2026, the mid-term meeting of the Ministry of Education's "101 Plan" in atmospheric science was successfully held at Nanjing University. Attendees included Tan Zheming, President of Nanjing University, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and leader of the "101 Plan" in atmospheric science; Wang Huijun, member of the expert group, Academician of the CAS, and professor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology; He Jianxin, President of Chengdu University of Information Technology; Hu Yongyun, professor at Peking University; and Wu Jian, Vice President of Yunnan University.

Tan Zheming delivered a welcome speech, expressing sincere gratitude to the expert group members and all course teams for their hard work and dedication. He reviewed the significant strategic importance and overall deployment of the "101 Plan," emphasizing that course teams should focus on textbook development as a foundation, coordinate course and practical project construction, enhance the professional capabilities of teachers in the atmospheric science field, and improve the quality of cultivating top innovative talents to build a strong support system for high-quality talent training in China's atmospheric science field.

After listening to the reports, the expert group fully acknowledged the current achievements and significant results of the "101 Plan" in atmospheric science. The expert group noted that the "101 Plan" bears the important mission of promoting educational and teaching reforms in atmospheric science. They hope each core course team will further clarify their construction goals, focus on core elements, and continuously deepen the high-quality construction of the "Four First-Class" initiative. They aim to create excellent textbooks and build quality courses with higher standards and broader perspectives, while also promoting and sharing outstanding construction experiences to play a leading role.

In the afternoon, attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on two major themes: AI empowerment in atmospheric science talent cultivation and the construction of the atmospheric science practice teaching system, exchanging views and building consensus. After the meeting, all participants visited the Earth Fluid Dynamics Laboratory at NJU for an on-site inspection to gain a direct understanding of the integration of laboratory construction and scientific research teaching.
