From January 4 to 5, Ms. Yu Fanying, the Chief Executive Officer of the Huaying Cultural and Education Foundation, visited Nanjing University and attended the foundation's working meeting. They discussed issues including talent cultivation, discipline development, and cross-strait scientific, educational, and cultural exchanges and cooperation in the new era.
During her stay in Nanjing, Ms. Yu Fanying, along with Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Vice President Lu Yanqing, attended the foundation's working meeting held at Southeast University. Sun Youhong, President of Southeast University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Vice President Qiu Haibo, and Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee Xing Jihong attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Tan Zheming and Sun Youhong delivered speeches welcoming Ms. Yu Fanying and her delegation. Tan Zheming expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Yu Jizhong, Mrs. Yu Cai Yuhui, Ms. Yu Fanying, and the Huaying Cultural and Education Foundation for their long-term concern and strong support for NJU's development. He stated that the foundation's continuous support has led to fruitful achievements in talent cultivation at the university. NJU highly values its cooperation and friendship with the foundation and looks forward to further deepening cooperation, expanding collaborative fields, focusing on high-quality composite talent cultivation, continuing to foster cross-strait exchange and cooperation in science, education and culture, and contributing wisdom and strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Ms. Yu Fanying presented a work report on the foundation's current development and praised NJU's educational achievements. She noted that as a leading institution with a century-old heritage, NJU has made remarkable achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, and cultural innovation, continuously contributing to national development and social progress. She sincerely hopes that NJU will continue to leverage its disciplinary characteristics and comprehensive advantages, strengthen various projects of the foundation, and further deepen cross-strait educational and technological exchanges and cooperation.

The meeting reviewed and approved the financial work report by Ms. Jiang Jingfang of the foundation, as well as the execution results of cooperative projects for the 2023-2024 academic year and the project application plans for 2025-2026 with Nanjing University and Southeast University. During the meeting, Ms. Yu Fanying and leaders from both universities had cordial exchanges with four newly selected Huaying scholars, including Ma Lin from the School of History and Yuan Wenzhuo from the School Liberal Arts, highly affirming their academic plans and encouraging them to deepen their academic pursuits and broaden their horizons to become leading academic talents.
Accompanied by Vice President Lu Yanqing and former Executive Deputy Secretary Yang Zhong, Ms. Yu Fanying visited the special exhibition dedicated to NJU's distinguished alumnus Mr. Yu Jizhong at the University Museum on Xianlin Campus. She fondly recalled the academic years and patriotic deeds of her father, a titan of Taiwan's news industry and founder of the China Times, Mr. Yu Jizhong. She revisited his dedication to "serving the country through literature and education", and expressed respect for NJU's efforts to uphold his spirit and commitment to education. During her visit, Ms. Yu also had discussions with experts and scholars from the School of Environment, receiving detailed reports on NJU's cutting-edge research progress, key technological breakthroughs, and achievements in water environment governance, and engaged in discussions on hot topics such as water pollution prevention.

Accompanied by former Vice President Zou Yajun and Assistant President Jiang Tian, Ms. Yu Fanying and her delegation also visited Suzhou Campus, where they received detailed introductions to its construction history and development plans. The beautiful natural environment, modern educational facilities, and development potential of the Suzhou Campus left a deep impression on Ms. Yu. She highly praised NJU's "one university, two cities, four campuses" model, which fosters coordinated development across various disciplines including arts, sciences, engineering, and medicine.

The Huaying Cultural and Education Foundation was established with donations from NJU's distinguished alumnus, Chairman of China Times, Mr. Yu Jizhong, and his wife, Mrs. Yu Cai Yuhui. Its mission is to support the alma mater, Nanjing University and Southeast University, in talent cultivation, team building, discipline development, and promoting cross-strait and international academic exchanges and cooperation.
