Tan Zhemin attends Multilingual Themed Speech of Jiangsu Western Returned Scholars Association

On January 10, the fifth Multilingual Themed Speech of the Jiangsu Western Returned Scholars Association was held in Nanjing. With the theme "Telling China's Story Well, Showcasing Jiangsu's Charms", the event used multiple languages as a bridge to vividly interpret China's developmental achievements and Jiangsu's unique allure, demonstrating the broad international perspective and deep patriotic sentiments of overseas students.

Tan Zhemin, President of the Jiangsu Western Returned Scholars Association, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and President of Nanjing University, attended the event along with Liu Bujian, Deputy Minister of the Provincial United Front Work Department, and Ge Lai, Party Secretary and Director of the Provincial Radio and Television General Station.

Chen Yixin, an Indonesian student recommended by NJU's United Front Work Department and Institute for International Students, and guided by Shu Yi, a counselor at the Institute for International Students, performed exceptionally well. She emotionally recounted "My Chinese Dream" in fluent Chinese, earning high praise from the judges and ultimately winning the first prize.

The event was co-organized by the Jiangsu International Communication Center of the Provincial Radio and Television General Station, the Nanjing Jianye High-tech Industrial Development Zone Management Committee, and the UK Branch of the Jiangsu Western Returned Scholars Association. It received widespread attention and enthusiastic participation from returned overseas students across the province, with over a hundred contestants actively registering. After a rigorous online preliminary selection, 18 outstanding contestants emerged from the English, Japanese, French, German, Korean, and Chinese language groups to advance to the on-site presentation.

The atmosphere at the event was lively, with the speech segments interspersed with traditional Chinese cultural performances such as lion dances and drum music, highlighting the charm of traditional culture. The event was also broadcast live via platforms like Jiaohuidian and inJiangsu, reaching a wide audience, with real-time viewership exceeding ten thousand. After professional evaluation, six "Chief Storytellers of Jiangsu" and twelve "Outstanding Storytellers of Jiangsu" were selected, and the Western Returned Scholars Associations of Nanjing, Nantong, and Yancheng were awarded "Outstanding Organization Units".
