On December 26, the 13th Nanjing University Chengyao Forum for Young Scholars and Campus Open Day was inaugurated in Nanjing. This year's forum adopts the format of a main university forum complemented by sub-forums in various colleges, and the Campus Open Day activities are held simultaneously in both Nanjing and Suzhou. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
On behalf of NJU, Tan Tieniu extended warm congratulations on the convening of the forum, sincerely welcomed outstanding young scholars from home and abroad participating both online and offline, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nanjing Municipal Committee, Nanjing Municipal People's Government, and friends from all walks of life who have long supported the development of NJU. He emphasized that General Secretary Xi Jinping has stressed that "talent is the primary resource", and that the comprehensive advancement of national strength and national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization relies on the support of talent for every strategic task. At present, NJU is making great strides towards the goal of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, now more eager and in greater need of talent than at any point in its history.
With sincere intent, Tan Tieniu introduced NJU's long-standing tradition and style of valuing talent, its "one university, two cities, four campuses" structure, and the recent educational achievements. He stressed that NJU has always respected, valued, loved, and cherished talent. He sincerely looks forward to outstanding young scholars using this forum as a platform to further approach NJU, understand NJU, fall in love with NJU, and ultimately become associated with, grow with, and soar with NJU—courageously making contributions and pioneering new paths on the journey toward the accelerated development of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, and showing youthful talent and realizing their dreams in the process of building a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.
Subsequently, Chen Meihua, Deputy Director of the Talents Office of the Nanjing Municipal Committee, delivered a speech. She gave a detailed introduction to Nanjing's innovative policies, platforms, and strong guarantees in various aspects, expressing the city's high regard for and eagerness for talent. She stated that the new era is an era of talent and innovation, providing great opportunities for young talents. Nanjing sincerely invites outstanding young individuals from home and abroad to choose NJU, take root in Nanjing, and shine with their talents and realize their dreams in this fertile ground for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Miao Feng, Director of the Teacher's Work Department of the Party Committee and Director of Human Resources at NJU, hosted the first half of the forum's opening ceremony, and provided an overview of the school's current situation, talent development strategy, and support systems—presenting scholars with a panoramic view of NJU's institutional advantages and development opportunities in attracting, cultivating, and utilizing talent.
The second half of the opening ceremony was hosted by Zhu Honghu, Deputy Director of Human Resources at NJU. Wu Di, Director of the Institute of Science and Technology Research, and Zhang Ming, Deputy Director of the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences, respectively delivered keynote reports titled "Climbing the Frontier of Science and Technology—NJU's Scientific Innovation System and Practice" and "Cultivating Fertile Ground for Humanities—NJU's Humanities and Social Sciences Research Landscape," systematically introducing the university's strategic planning, platform support, and representative achievements in scientific innovation and humanities and social sciences.
During the exchange and interaction session, young scholars actively asked questions and had in-depth discussions with representatives from relevant departments on hot topics such as the research environment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and talent development pathways. The representatives responded with sincere and detailed answers, leading to constant sparks of thought and a warm and harmonious atmosphere.
At the opening ceremony, NJU also premiered its new talent recruitment-themed film "Youwei", which embodies NJU‘s dedication to attracting outstanding talents, and reflects the determined spirit of scholars who choose and take root at NJU by "integrating personal ideals into the surging tides of the nation and the times."
After the opening ceremony, the young scholars participated in the Open Day activities, visiting the Gulou, Xianlin, and Suzhou campuses, entering relevant college laboratories, and attending academic sub-forums organized by each college and research unit, experiencing firsthand the academic atmosphere and educational environment of NJU.
It is reported that this forum attracted nearly 600 young scholars from both China and abroad, participating online and offline. Li Zhilai, Deputy General Manager and Party Committee Member of the Southeast Group of Nanjing, and relevant responsible colleagues, as well as leaders of relevant departments and representatives of various schools of NJU, were invited to attend, gathering together with young scholars to witness the grand event.
