On December 28th, the Graduate Union of Nanjing University, in collaboration with the Graduate Union of the School of International Studies, organized an Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) experience activity at Yongman Pavilion. Approximately 20 international students from various schools of NJU participated, immersing themselves in the traditional art of pulp painting while engaging in meaningful cross-cultural communication.
The event was designed to provide participants with a hands-on understanding of the Global Civilization Initiative through the lens of cultural exchange, enabling them to appreciate Chinese artistic traditions while sharing their own cultural perspectives.
Kicking off with the ice-breaking session, participants wrote their names and shared the cultural meanings and stories behind them, fostering an atmosphere of openness and mutual understanding.

Subsequently, the international students began making pulp paintings step by step: soaking recycled papers, blending them into smooth pulp, mixing with adhesive and pigments, and carefully applying it onto cardboard to form vibrant designs.. Through this process, they experienced the interesting transformation of simple materials into expressive works of art.
By deeply engaging with this traditional craft, the international students not only gained an understanding of the production techniques of pulp painting but also forged connections with peers from the School of International Studies, strengthening their bonds through creativity and conversation.
