School of Journalism and Communication conducts a a study tour on national conditions in Hong Kong

On February 23, 12 postgraduate students from the School of Journalism and Communication at Nanjing University visited the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China for a study tour on national conditions, led by Ji Xiaomin, Deputy Secretary of the School and Associate Professor Shang Keke. The study tour received support from Mr. Wong Kam-leung, Member of the Legislative Council.

In the basement lobby, the NJU delegation got to know the Legislative Council Emblem on the drum-shaped wall. "Centered on the Chinese character 'Li' (立), it also incorporates the capital letter 'L' from 'Legislative Council'." The design ingeniously captures the distinctive blend of Eastern and Western cultures within the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The gallery's collection of historical photographs traces the evolution of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, showcasing the century-old architecture of the Legislative Council Building, and documenting every step of the legislative body's journey – from its founding and subsequent adjustments to its refinement and development.

As the group finished the visit and took the escalator down, they looked back to see the large artwork Figures come into view. Composed of 87 portraits of local people of different ages and backgrounds, together with their shadows, the piece is not only a microcosm of Hong Kong society, but also a reflection of the democratic foundation of Hong Kong's legislation, which embodies profound care for all sectors of society.

At the end of the visit, the teachers and students from Nanjing University all remarked that the trip had allowed them to witness the standardization and transparency of Hong Kong's legislative procedures in a tangible way, and more importantly, to deeply perceive the steady progress and vibrant vitality of Hong Kong's legal development under the framework of "One Country, Two Systems". Moving forward, the faculty and students will harness the power of the media and dedicate themselves to forging China's discourse system, better interpreting the successful practice of "One Country, Two Systems" to the world.
