On November 21, 2025, the 24th Pacific Science Congress opened at the Shantou International Convention and Exhibition Center in Guangdong Province. About 800 researchers from 18 countries attended the event.
During the opening ceremony, Professor Lyu Yonglong, President of the Pacific Science Association (PSA) and Professor from Xiamen University, conferred the title of "PSA Life Fellow" upon Fu Congbin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Foreign Academician of Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. This honor recognizes his outstanding contributions to the PSA's development and to international academic exchange and cooperation.
Academician Fu began his involvement with the PSA in 1984. Over the years, he has served successively as Secretary-General, Executive Committee Member, and Vice President. In 2007, he was elected President of the 21st PSA. Throughout his tenure spanning more than three decades, Academician Fu dedicated himself to integrating critical concepts—including global change, Earth System Science and sustainable development—into the PSA's development.
This award reflects the PSA's high recognition of Academician Fu's active role in advancing scientific research exchange across the Pacific region, as well as his efforts in promoting regional sustainable development.
